Nov. 25, 2008: Our world premiere screening in the Joris Ivens Competition at IDFA at last! The screening was sold-out and the Q & A went very well. It was nice having Matt and Ari on stage with me to help field the questions and comments. Ari even got to accept some fine compliments on his music. Plus my cousin Dave (son of my aunt Pam – one of the “stars” of the film) was there in person to marvel at his mom on screen. He even spotted himself in one of the old family photos!
Lots of questions: How does my family feel about the film? (A: My mother is the only one who has seen it so far.) Did I have any ethical second thoughts about making the film? (A: Every day. But my entire family – except my father and his wife – were very supportive of the film and eager to talk to me on and off camera. It was their support and my inner conviction that I was doing the right thing that kept me going through the long, difficult process.). Once again, the film seems to resonate with all kinds of people of all ages.
