Nov. 28, 2008: So the bad news first: “Forgetting Dad” was not one of the lucky three films out of the seventeen in the Joris Ivens Competition (the main competition) to be nominated as a finalist. Oh, well. They still got all of us filmmakers up on stage to look like fools, and gave us plenty of free wine.
This morning was our screening in the lovely Tuschinski Theater. There were probably a couple hundred people there but it looked pretty empty. It’s such a huge movie palace! A decent crowd. Once again the question of whether or not Dad has seen the film. No, he hasn’t. He broke off all contact to me one-and-a-half years ago – six months after we shot the final scene of the film. I hope the situation changes, but there’s not a whole lot I can do about it. The ball is in his court.
